Colossians 2:20-23

Is this talking about rules or human standards?

In col 2:13-15 it says  13When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,[b] God made you[c] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[d]

Then he goes on telling the colossians not to let anyone judge them by "what they dont do!" which goes to mean to me is that the colossian church still has rituals and human imposed rules and regulation to work out their relationship with God ..

18Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.

and this is your question :  20Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21"Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? 22These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. 23Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

I like the NLT version 22 Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. 23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.

Paul was explaining GRACE... the colossian church (i guess the ones who are TRYING to follow the religious rules again) and Paul is saying dont TRY .. TRUST in the work of JESUS. Trying by using "self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body" will not make them any holier..

So my answer is both .. he was talking about the Religious Jewish Laws and Human Standards that is added to it..

personally i catch myself treating my body harshy by fasting or praying or TRYING so hard... but the answer is TRUST.

Artist Manager Job Description

By Buffy Naillon, eHow Contributor

The artist manager is the person who ensures that an artist is successful in the marketplace. The artist manager is also known as an artist's representative, agent, manager or consultant. But whatever she's called, her job remains the same: to concern herself with the business of art so that the artist can concentrate on making art.

    Advising

  1. The artist manager helps the artist navigate the business side of art, according to Art Business. This might include reading a contract, explaining to an artist what constitutes "business as usual" in a transaction or organizing a show. Advising artists about these matters is a primary function of the artist manager; this kind of advice helps the artist avoid having misunderstandings with potential clients.
  2. Relationships

  3. Artist managers seek out artists and build relationships with them, according to the Find Your Art School website. They keep abreast of artists' work in order to better talk to potential buyers. Without this knowledge, it would be impossible for the artist manager to explain the artist or her goals for her art.
  4. Marketing

  5. According to Find Your Art School, the artist manager spends a good portion of his time marketing an artist's work. Marketing activities can include setting up promotional events and exhibitions. In this capacity, he also notifies clients of these events via newsletter, makes phone calls, mails postcards and posts information on the artist's website. Because the artist representative has taken the time to get to know the artist, this also assists him when trying to market the artist's work. He understands how to show the work in the best light and possesses additional knowledge about why people buy the artist's work, because he's gotten feedback from the artist's clients. According to the Art Business website, the use of this information helps to develop better marketing plans.
  6. Industry Trends

  7. Aside from the work that the artist manager does for a specific artist, the manager also makes sure she knows what the current trends in the art industry and markets are. The artist manager keeps current on up-and-coming artists, looking to see who might be on the verge of success. According to Find Your Art School, this ability to spot trends in the art world will have a great impact on the would-be artist manager's job prospects. A potential employer will look for a representative who understands the current and future movements in the art world.
  8. Financial

  9. The artist manager deals with other aspects of business that aren't related to the artist making art, but are important nonetheless. The artist manager keeps track of the finances as they relate to the business side of art. He minds the artist's money, keeping watch on how much the artist's work has made and how much is owed to the artist. Additionally, the artist manager keeps records and makes sure that all the financial aspects of the artist's business balance.

Hebrews 1 Jesus is not an angel

This morning as i was doing an assignment, last Sunday our Pastor asked us to read Hebrews. I started reading but I got stuck on chapter 1:1-2. (Im such a slacker)
Before going any further.. I looked up on the internet the purpose of this Epistle (wiki) "The primary purpose of the Letter to the Hebrews is to exhort Christians to persevere in the face of persecution. The central thought of the entire Epistle is the doctrine of the Person of Christ and his role as mediator between God and humanity."

Since i got stuck in chapter 1:1-2 I'l talk about it ... actually i will focus on verse 2.
1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.
1:1
Before GOD spoke the ff ways (to name a few):
1. Angels (eg. Genesis 19:11)
2. A donkey (Numbers 22:28-30)
3. Prophets (Moses, Jeremiah, Elijah, Isaiah, etc)
1:2a
Now GOD speaks to us through Jesus. (period) in lay mans term.. if we have a relationship with Jesus GOD speaks to us... thus the meaning of THROUGH..
  • God speaks to me
  • God puts His law in my heart
  • As i seek Him with all my heart I will find Him
Also GOD promised everything to the Son (Jesus) as an inheritance
What does this mean to us?? If everything is given to Jesus .... fill in your own revelation!

through the Son he created the universe...
  • Through Jesus He creates in me a clean heart
  • Through Jesus I love His creation and I will take care of it
  • Through His Son I will shepherd His flock as He Shepherds me
short and sweet.. deep and meaningful i love HIM! :) I go back to the purpose of this Epistle to encourage us saints to persevere in facing your trials, Jesus is our mediator. Hope you are encouraged~

Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe

Last Saturday i watched an excellent performance of the Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe entitled "Amihan" (Harvest) at the Living Arts Center! I was invited by Fanny Calucag to watched and I'm so glad i came. In my opinion its as good as the Bayanihan Dancers or even better (due to the live sound experience).
Vol. 12-Philippine Folk Dances

I love the idea that they used live musicians they were on guitars , kulintangs, bass, etc. all the elements needed for authentic filipiniana music. The costumes were superb, so colorful and it looks expensive. The lighting and the props were also done well. I was over-all impressed.

Luis L. Pantoja Jr. THD

I went to a memorial service for Pasto Luis Pantoja a commemorative Prayer meeting hosted by GCF-Peel. It was a touching event for I only met Pastor Luis once here in Canada during a church picnic last month. Its a pity I did not get to talk to him.

In the prayer meeting I heard so many funny, meaningful stories about this great man. A man greatly loved and for he loved much.

Epitaph for his cremated remains: "A handful of ashes now vaulted in this corner, with nothing to boast but grace from his maker"

I happen to read his Limericks..

Limericks on my life
by Luis Pantoja on Friday August 27, 2010 at 9:33pm

Limericks are short verses generally but not always funny. Here are some about my career

Once on fire, in a suit and tie
By the hand of God and the will of man

Now he's fired, in sackcloth retired
By the hand of man and the will of God

The Lord has given, He has taken away
I tread the path, He leads the way

Flip the new page, blank with no stain
God in my old age, still holds a pen

Shadrach and friends, in furnance unburned
Daniel in the den, by lions unharmed!

Have fought a good fight, unfinished race
Have kept the good faith, in a slower pace

One-armed swordsman, not training alone
Relearning conflict, in uncharted zone

A good begining, an unhappy end
Abound with joy and lessons learned

Praise God for success
Praise God when I fail
God's plans are not stifled,
His mercies prevail

Go on amputee, new ventures to take
Goals yet to conquer, for God's kingdom's sake

Enter the new doors, and finish the race
To those who falter sufficient grace

A shattered vessel in the Potter's hand
Eager of deployment awaiting command

The Vibram Five Finger Shoes Review

The Vibram Five Finger Shoes Review

I bought the shoe last month and been walking with it ever since.
 My thoughts about it :

1. It is a head turner. People notice the weirdness of the shoe. Most common comment is that they look like gloves.
2. After walking with it for 2 hours, I can feel all the bones of my feet. Its not a painful feeling but a worked out feeling (sore). However the next day my feet felt fine!
3. Super comfortable, i can wear it the whole day till night. Wearing the shoe is like wearing protected and firm slippers.
4. After a month the shoe can get sticky so be ready to use double strength Dr. Scholes shoe deodorant.. it works!!!

Fall is almost here.. I’m not sure if i can use it during cold weather, I hope i can!

8 Reminders for Leaders

Psalm 101 NLT
A psalm of David.

1 I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs.
  - Worship and serve the LORD

2 I will be careful to live a blameless life—when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.
-Integrity everywhere!, be careful to live a life above reproach

NKJV- 2 I will behave wisely in a perfect way. Oh, when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect    heart.

“Behave” in Hebrew is RAHAB- make sure, behave proudly, overcome, strengthen

3 I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly;I will have nothing to do with them.
-protect your eyes and hate what is evil

4 I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.

5 I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride.

NKJV- 5 Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.

“Slanders” A false tale or report maliciously uttered. and tending to injure the reputation of another by lessening him in the esteem of his fellow citizens, by exposing min to impeachment and punishment, or by impairing his means of lining; defamation. Slander, that worst of poisons, ever finds an easy entrance to ignoble minds.
“Ignoble” Of low birth or family; not noble; not illustrious.

6 I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.
   Choose your friends wisely!

NIV- 6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.
“Faithful” Firmly adhering to duty; of true fidelity; loyal; true to allegiance; as a faithful subject.

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You

7 I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

“Decievers” Syn. -- Deceiver, Impostor. A deceiver operates by stealth and in private upon individuals; an impostor practices his arts on the community at large. The one succeeds by artful falsehoods, the other by bold assumption. The faithless friend and the fickle lover are deceivers; the false prophet and the pretended prince are impostors.

Afraid

Afraid: Impressed with fear or apprehension; fearful. This word expresses a less degree of fear than terrified or frightened. It is followed by of before the object of fear; as, to be afraid of death.

Dread: 1. Great fear, or apprehension of evil or danger. It expresses more than fear, and less than terror or fright. It is an uneasiness or alarm excited by expected pain, loss or other evil. Fear: 1. A painful emotion or passion excited by an expectation of evil, or the apprehension of impending danger. Fear expresses less apprehension than dread, and dread less than terror and fright. Fear is an uneasiness of mind, upon the thought of future evil likely to befall us.

Jesus Calms the Storm Mark 4:35-41
35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.
38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid (dread)? Do you still have no faith?”
41 The disciples were absolutely terrified (afraid). “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
In this passage:
1.Jesus was the one who initiated the boat travel.. meaning He knew that there’s a storm
2.Most of the disciples were fishermen so they knew that it was really a bad storm!
3.Jesus was sleeping and awaken by terrified and dreading disciples!
4.Jesus rebuked the storm and asked “do u still have no faith?” (prior to this scene Jesus has healed many, preached, and taught but the disciples never seen Him being Lord over creation.. they were afraid, terrified to witness that!

Mark 5:1-18
Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Man
1 So they arrived at the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus climbed out of the boat, a man possessed by an evil[b] spirit came out from a cemetery to meet him. 3 This man lived among the burial caves and could no longer be restrained, even with a chain. 4 Whenever he was put into chains and shackles—as he often was—he snapped the chains from his wrists and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Day and night he wandered among the burial caves and in the hills, howling and cutting himself with sharp stones.
6 When Jesus was still some distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him, and bowed low before him. 7 With a shriek, he screamed, “Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had already said to the spirit, “Come out of the man, you evil spirit.”
9 Then Jesus demanded, “What is your name?”
And he replied, “My name is Legion, because there are many of us inside this man.” 10 Then the evil spirits begged him again and again not to send them to some distant place.
11 There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby. 12 “Send us into those pigs,” the spirits begged. “Let us enter them.”
13 So Jesus gave them permission. The evil spirits came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd of 2,000 pigs plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water.
14 The herdsmen fled to the nearby town and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran. People rushed out to see what had happened. 15 A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid(fear). 16 Then those who had seen what happened told the others about the demon-possessed man and the pigs. 17 And the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go away and leave them alone.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. 19 But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” 20 So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns[c] of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.
In this passage:
1.Demons were terrified at Jesus and obeyed Him
2.The man who had the demons became sane
3.The people were afraid when they saw the man who was possessed healed
4.Jesus denied the request of the man healed to join Him and commanded him to go and share to 10 cities and everyone was not afraid but amazed at what he told them.

Repentance

Repentance means to change one's mind, thought, purpose, views regarding a matter; it is to have another mind about a thing...

God grants the "gift of repentance" as each individual responds to the gospel through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for all sin. "So then faith come by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17).
The gift of repentance is given before anything else. One cannot show true change in his life before he himself has a profound regret for his past and a promise of fulfilled hope in God's grace

The Parable of the Two Sons
Matthew 21: 28"What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'

29" 'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. (repented)

30"Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go. (hypocrisy)

31"Which of the two did what his father wanted?"
"The first," they answered.

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
